Why is it significant?
The Government is committed to sustainable development that aims to ensure a better quality of life for everyone, now and in the future, by simultaneously meeting economic, social and environmental objectives. Perceptions of quality of life can also be an important determinant of economic performance as they influence the attractiveness for inward investment, location decisions by UK and overseas firms and their ability to retain key knowledge workers.

 

How does the UK perform?
The UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs’ (DEFRA) Quality of Life Indicators show that progress has been made on a number of indicators, but that the UK ‘could do better’ on certain indicators.
