Why is it
significant?
The
Government is a lead investor in basic scientific research and has a key
role in creating the UK�s science capability.
How does the UK perform? UK government spending on R&D per worker fell in real terms between 1991 and 1999. This trend was apparent in the majority of G7 countries. The UK�s performance remains behind our major international competitors (Chart 3.14). |
